And anyway, a gay man's place is sleeping so the rising sun can catch him looking up at the rainbow-stained banner before he goes to work, the banner that waves in the morning air and in the morning light advertises bright colors and covers the broken heart hiding in his own home, beneath the strict laws of our nation's law-makers, under the floorboards burning in a flame war no one wants put out, in the air chilled by people's frozen hearts.

A sketch I drew in my art class sketchbook, of a burning flag. The idea comes from a story I've been working on the past several years, and this particular flag belongs to the most powerful nation in an empire created by the antagonist.

The text on the flag is written in an older version of the language created by the antagonist for his empire, is read right to left as one would read Hebrew or Arabic, and is transliterated QZAQ, an abbreviation of Tāqū Qæāzūzorū Zpeqæū Tāqe Amerīqūme, meaning "The Sacred States of America."

(Note: The Sacred States is the most powerful nation in this empire, and the nation the antagonist comes from. It's not the empire itself.)
